Waken Mouthcare, an innovative oral care brand based in London, UK, has successfully raised an impressive £950K through a crowdfunding campaign that saw participation from an incredible 215 investors via Republic Europe, which was formerly known as Seedrs. This substantial financial boost is designed to further the company's ambitions in expanding its operations and enhancing its research and development initiatives. As consumer demand grows for sustainable and effective oral care products, the funds will allow Waken to address this demand and scale their production capabilities accordingly.
Waken was co-founded by the talented duo Simon Duffy MBE and Rhodri Ferrier MBE, who have put great emphasis on sustainability in their product offerings.
The brand is committed to using post-consumer recycled plastics and cardboard that is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for their packaging. The meticulous development of their products involved close collaboration with dental professionals and formulation chemists. Waken has successfully introduced a suite of products that includes a Whitening toothpaste, a Daily Care mouthwash that promises 12-hour protection for both teeth and gums, and a dental floss that is ethically produced in Milan using 100% recycled materials.
Since its establishment, Waken Mouthcare has achieved notable milestones. They reported a remarkable £5.4 million in net sales and 3.4 million units of oral care products sold between 2019 and 2024. In the twelve months leading up to July 31, 2024, the company generated net sales amounting to £1.7 million and cultivated a solid customer base of 15,000 direct-to-consumer clients. Furthermore, their products are now available at nearly 4,000 distribution points across leading UK retailers, including major names like Amazon, Asda, Boots, Ocado, Sainsbury's, Tesco, and Waitrose. Waken has even spread its reach internationally, securing sales in countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Turkey, and Korea, which marks a significant step towards the brand's global expansion ambitions.
